What kind of Guitar should I buy?

I'm looking for a good beginner guitar since I have never played, preferably around 300$ and i'm looking to cover songs by Foo Fighters and Nine Inch Nails with it. I know I'm asking for a lot with the price but i've been checking around the internet and don't know how to tell a good guitar from a bad one. can anybody plz help?
